5Why this grade
| Consideration | Basis |
|---|---|
| Buffering behaviour | Natural buffering point near pH 6.8. As carbonate dissolves and neutralises soil acid, pH rises and solubility falls, which limits the risk of over-liming. |
| Surface area without grinding | Surface area above 1.7 m2/g in the natural grain size — equivalent to 100-mesh ground limestone, with no grinding step (TB-OA-001). |
| Dust behaviour | Grain size of 50–500 µm is large enough not to be wind-suspended, unlike powdered ground lime. |
| Organic status | OMRI Listed under NOP: Calcium Carbonate, use class Crop Fertilizers and Soil Amendments. Status Allowed, no restrictions. Listed 26 Jun 2026, expiring 1 Sep 2027. |
Feed-grade calcium carbonate is listed by the Association of American Feed Control Officials as feed ingredient 57.10, and calcium carbonate is recognised by the FDA as generally recognized as safe. Confirm particle-size requirements with the ration formulator; feed supply is subject to lot-specific certificate of analysis.
