Choosing an aragonite grade.

The four grades share one material and one measured composition. What separates them is particle sizing, so the right grade starts from the application and the equipment.

Every AragoCor grade is the same natural oolitic aragonite, with the same representative composition of 96.17% CaCO3 and 38.51% elemental calcium. The grades exist because applications need the material at different particle sizes. Choosing one is therefore less about chemistry than about what your process, equipment and receiving system expect.

The four grades at a glance

AragoCor grades, particle sizing and application areas
GradeProductParticle sizeWhere it is used
AG-CALAgricultural calcium0.2–0.5 mmSoil-test-driven calcium and pH programs, growing media, turf
GL-CALGlass batch feedBelow 0.1 mmContainer, flat, solar, fiberglass and specialty glass batches
WT-CALWater treatment & alkalinity media1–3 mmContactor remineralization, pH adjustment and filtration
PL-CALFunctional fillerTo specificationPolymers, coatings and functional fillers

The AG-CAL, GL-CAL and WT-CAL sizes are published ranges. PL-CAL has no published size: it is supplied to the customer’s specification.

AG-CAL: soil, growing media and turf

AG-CAL is the grade for calcium and pH programs built on a soil test, for container and nursery media, and for turf. The material carries the OMRI crop fertilizer listing avw-23214; the OMRI page explains what a listing does and does not establish for a certified organic operation. Rates belong to the soil test and your agronomist, not to a data sheet.

GL-CAL: glass batches

GL-CAL is sized below 0.1 mm for container, flat, solar, fiberglass and specialty glass batches. The glass batch chemistry brief sets out the oxide analysis, loss on ignition and colourants a batch engineer needs to assess it. Behaviour in your own batch is something to establish in a trial on your own furnace.

WT-CAL: water treatment media

WT-CAL is the coarse grade, 1–3 mm, for contactor remineralization, pH adjustment and filtration. Media sizing has to suit the contactor or filter it goes into, so start from the vessel design. Drinking-water use carries its own approval requirements, which composition alone does not establish; confirm those with your regulator before specifying.

PL-CAL: polymers, coatings and fillers

Filler applications are sensitive to particle size distribution, so PL-CAL is classified to your specification rather than to a published range. Bring the specification your process already runs to, and plan a trial in your own formulation.

When none of the four fits

20–325 U.S. mesh is the range offered for custom classification to customer specification. It is not the range the published grades span — WT-CAL at 1–3 mm is coarser than a No. 20 sieve — so if your application sits between or outside the grades, ask for a custom classification.

What to include in an enquiry

  • The grade, or your written specification.
  • The particle-size requirement — sieve distribution, top size or mesh range.
  • Volume and cadence — tonnage per shipment and across the year.
  • Destination — the plant or delivery point freight is quoted to.
  • Packaging — the format your receiving and metering equipment expects.
  • Documentation — the analytical, safety and listing documents your quality process requires.
